Button up! It's a quarter to five
In her bed you can't hide, time to trip, fall and die
Watch the light blast, life flash
Before your wide eyes
Try for goodbye cause you're leaving the first world
On the move feeling like you can fly
Then you hit the ground high, and you have a good cry
Number two plain, new game
Rules are unkind, find that on your mind is every one of the lost girls
John the Eternal One
Pays no mind to the setting sun
Disenchanted and one the run
From the love of the hired guns
John the infernal one
Lost his mind, then he had his fun
Will he ever fall in love?
Will he ever fall in love?
Will he ever fall in love?
Now your lost with a man on the beach
He got an ocean front desk, he's dismissing your grief
Your assignment, time spent
Causing relief, chief purpose is cagey but you know it's a tough line
Get a guide who looks like an old friend
Back when you were so young all the rules you would bend
Now a lady, shady
Gunning to send friend into the void, you'll see your murder was her crime
John the Eternal One
Chasing her cause she's on the run
On the trail of her smoking gun
She's got answers and he got none
John, his internal hum
Catches up under setting sun
Will he ever know the score?
Will he know what he died for?
Will they just call him a whore?
Spoken:
There is a certain feeling among us here in the afterlife that you, John, do not deserve to find what we refer to as the solution, the cure...
You will toil for an undisclosed amount of time, effecting change in your own soul before you can enjoy the soul of another.
They say life's a bitch. Apparently, for you, so is the after life...
Good day.
John the Eternal One
He's the man with the smoking gun
Battle's over, the war's not done
Cause he can be a better man
Oh Honey, ain't that the truth
He's a boy hid behind his youth
Will he ever be the one?
Trading all his clouds for sun?
Will he ever fall in love?

didn't happen

Didn't happen here, didn't happen anywhere
Didn't happen here, didn't happen anywhere
He's the type of man who twists the knife
He's in Jersey moving gently with your wife
He's the kind of man who walks on water
So you'd better get a life
In the time before you die
Didn't happen here, didn't happen anywhere
Didn't happen here, didn't happen anywhere
She will break me, give her one more night
It makes no sense but feels so right
I was woken up by cold sunlight
Just in time to watch you go
Everybody wants to know
Why doesn't she come around anymore?
Why doesn't he do what he can to be more?
Why not throw the pieces to the floor?
It's time to get a life, time to say goodbye
Time to get a life in the time you've got before you die
Didn't happen here, didn't happen anywhere
Didn't happen here, didn't happen anywhere
Say 'I love you' when you get the chance
Don't miss out on life because you've got grand plans
Get the ocean and the land in hand
Better get a life
Better get it right
Better get a life
Better get it right

When I was a hooligan I used to drink my whiskey straight
When I was a hooligan I'd have long conversations about fate
When I was a hooligan, all my days were long, my nights were great
When I was a hooligan I'd chase, make-out, sleep with women all wrong
When I was a hooligan, with the Chairman of the Board I'd write the songs
When I was a hooligan, filming shit with friends when we had none...
for fun
You got your ordinary life
You got your ordinary wife
You got your grip on time so tight
Escape a failure every night
You never made it just face it, hate it accommodate it
Then you can rate it and bait it before you terminate it
You're on the straight and narrow
Don't that sound claustrophobic
These are the slings and arrows
You're gone before you know it
I'm still a hooligan, and I don't need to smoke and burn and drink and fuck and sleep my days away
I'm still a hooligan, and nowhere is it written that my kind can't twist the time to work their way
Lucky it's you again, want to love you till I'm old and gray
So gray

another beer

It's impossible to stand on every inch of land that exists in this world
And it's impossible to stare into the eyes upon the face of every girl
But it's possible to be the type of fella who would hop a leaving train
And when you get to where you're going find the girl you love and kiss her in the rain
Is it possible for angry people to just stop and realize they're alive
And is it possible for nervous party goers to step up in here and jive
And is it possible to be asleep through all those years that one might call your prime
Well I know it is possible to stand on your own two feet and shout Uh huh, this is my time
You say no, no, no, no
Nobody knows why we're here
But I doubt it's got a damn thing to do with fear
So today I think I'll step outside
before the coast is clear
I said before the coast is clear...
It's impossible to turn back time unless you fill your mind with memories
And is there something we can find for all of those we've left behind, a remedy
And is this one life all we live, oh is it all we face I ask you can it be?
You say if not well then the better man would do the best he can before the end to shake hands with his enemy
No, no, no, no
Nobody knows why we're here
But I doubt it's got a damn thing to do with fear
So today I think I'll step outside
Before I know that the coast is clear
Nobody knows why we're here
and I know that calls for another beer
And today I think I'll step outside
Today you'll step outside
Hey I'll see you outside
Before the coast is clear
I said before the coast is clear
Before the coast is clear
Before I know
And I will sing
And I will sing
And I will sing
And you know everywhere I go the love I found, well with me that's the love I bring

My advice to you, dear boy
Under the radar is where you'll find shade
Doesn't twist drive, doesn't hide away love
Out of sight work means you stifle the aide
Quiets the noise from the people who claim
Anything more than a genuine care
People who act like you owe them defense
For the life chosen that isn't like theirs
Music is color, it's black and it's green
Painting emotion like apples and pairs
Memorize monologues, sonnets and scenes
Sketching you villain, comic still bare
Hold it like treasure in company poor
Anyone judging and tilting their head
Nothing but money can make you a whore
Eyes white and wide as you lie in your bed
Just because you've seen the stars
Doesn't qualify you as a spaceman, a spaceman
Ohhh
Roads will diverge from the start of your days
You can have more than the world thinks you should
Churning out shit is a way to get lost
You can be found when you're better than good
You can invent, you can dream and then fire!
Blow them away with the color you see
Show them it's not all about your attire
Salary line or a stack of degrees
You can be neon cutting down gray
You are a hero climbing up hill
This is a life that requires blind sight
Not for the glamour, not for the thrill
This is your heart and it's written in stone
Passionate love like a husband and wife
Art is a tonic, medicine, cure
Art is a hero saving your life
Just because you've seen the stars
Doesn't qualify you as a spaceman, a spaceman
Ohhh
Just because you hit the bars
Doesn't mean you have to get shitfaced man
Disgrace man
Replacement...
Is waiting in the wings and he's thinking dirty things
Like a plot to kill the king
Just go ahead lie in your bed a ghost to everything
And you sing...
Stick around boy, you're a marathon man
It's only you who can show you the door
Everyday you do the best that you can
make it impossible to be ignored
Even if shadow is all that you are
Even if dust is the legacy left
Soul will be free and peace will be yours
Fear will be dead, demons bereft
Just because you've seen the stars
Doesn't qualify you as a spaceman, a spaceman
Ohhh
Just because you've seen the stars
Doesn't qualify you as a spaceman, a spaceman

Hindsight, blind sight, what'll it be
Got a right to sell out you can do as you please
Used to have two lawyers living with me
They weren't lawyers then but they're fucking lawyers now
I once knew a man
A neon crazy talent man
Lives in the woods and it does him no good
All the while he's better than everyone on TV
Hi-diddle-dee-dee
An actors life for me
'till it's inconvenient
Want my steady gold accounts
I won't sing you a lullaby
No lullaby
You disappoint me
Cause you are the fool who never tried

On the subway, lonely tonight
Everyone goes and that is alright
Lovely do what lovely like
I said it's alright
Everyone wants to be like you
Everyone dreams dreams come true
Everyone sees my
Purple view
And it's sold
You've been away and it's sold
I wanted to stay and it's sold
And I wanted to pray, oh
Do you mind
That I fell asleep before time and that's nice
And I think that you'll find it's on my mind
And it's off my mind
She's like a mermaid and I'm like a sailor
And her name was Sadie and we were a failure
And I have been baited and I hesitated
And I have been waiting too long for my love
And I got to see you
And I got to see through
And I got to see you
And I got to see blue
Yeah blue's me and you
It's so me and you
And I've got it all in front of me
Do you mind
If I step outside before time and that's fine
Anyway
Every time you call
I need night
I need night
And you just left me standing back here on my own
I say fuck it the other way brings me back home
It's going alright and it's going away
You're here to stay I can't lie you away
Can't you see things my way
you're going to stay
you're going to stay
or your going to pay
Oh you're going today

Wake up cause it's tomorrow
and you're just living on time that you borrow
I heard that once and it stayed with me
Oh you're singing, and you're dancing
And giving one last shot to romancing
And is it any consolation that when you wake up all alone that you are still free
Well there's a girl I know
With green eyes
That get a little bit greener when she cries
I wonder have I already met my wife
Now we're laughing
Because we're joking
And getting high on the greens that we're smoking
You say it's time to go well I say time is ruining my life
I know you get the letters that I send
I know goodbye was not the end
I also know that it's been too long my old friend
Orion's in the sky again
Well the last time I remember
Seeing you was way back in December
And it was raining all night long
Now I'm standing in the driveway
I see a beautiful lady walk my way
I turn my head and then she's gone
I look forward to all the letters that you send
I know goodbye was not the end
I also know that it's been too long my old friend
Orion's in the sky again
Orion's in the sky again
Now it's time to say goodbye
Again
Again
Again
But I know that goodbye is not the end

Daddy take your boy to the playground
Let him hit the slide and the swings and all the plastic tunnels
Daddy hip your boy to the real sound
All that English music takes arms against a sea of troubles
Show him all the places that you know
Teach him all the lessons that you know
And he will be fine
I said he will be fine
Mommy leave your past in the background
Cause your future's brighter than days where suns already set
And give you boy your will he won't back down
Tell him to believe in himself he'll never know regret
And teach him all the lessons that you know
Show him how to fly and then let go
And he will be fine
I said he will be fine
Notches in the doorframe when he grows
Sledding in the yard on a fresh snow
All the eccentricity was some kind of victory
Play me back my history show me...
When the light goes out
Monter's here
You can't go
Feel the fear
It's what you know
You can use it
When it's time
To shoot that fear
And watch it die
Brother playing ball in the driveway
Working on his hook and his fade and every kind of lay-up
Come to Brooklyn, celebrate my way
Town is red we'll put on Lebowski I can't even stay up
Cause my whiskey tolerance: zero
Did you know you're some kind of hero
And you will be fine
I know you will be fine
Should I have another light beer? no.
Wish I was as good as DeNiro
This kind of admission fucks with my decisions
Weakens my position so show me
When my light went out
Monter's here
You can't go
Feel the fear
It's what you know
You can use it
When it's time
To shoot that fear
Between the eyes

Sitting with a friend of mine around the table outside of the building in the center of the town that I love
In a silence he stares at the people walking by and I myself have chosen to stare at the blue sky up above
Stare with wide eyed admiration then return to conversation wondering what to do I ask him whatta ya think?
He turns to me and says 'people, people everywhere and not a drop to drink.'
We pick up another friend, we pick him up outside of work he hops into the back seat and away we role
We ask him how his day was, if it was a great as usual, his response: a middle finger and a freshly packed
Bowl me over! An hour later, not too shady inside the convenience store
Got my gummies, got my drink, wait a moment let me think that simply will not do I need to get a whole lot more...
You say I'm wasting my time
Who better for the job than me
You can watch, oh you can watch the bridges burn
But I know that you'll never learn
So from each other we, we're free
Soon we get back on the road, the music screaming as we ride, smoking cigarettes and standing out among the crowd
We pick up another friend and now the car is full we take the opportunity to use the darkness of the night as a shroud
To conceal the puff of smoke, hovering inside the car, then we're driving just to drive real far away
Oh we're driving through the night so we can find a brand new day
But soon the moment fades and it feels like everyone sitting in the car hasn't got a thought inside their heads
We didn't seize the moment, didn't change the way it is, no escape tonight so how's about a movie instead
Hoping for a film that might alter my perspective even for a moment change the way that I feel
Don't need forced emotion, don't need no goddam explosions just something with some character, something that feels real
You say I'm wasting my time
Who better for the job than me
You can watch, oh you can watch the bridges burn
But I know that you'll never learn
So from each other we
We are free
Back on the road talking 'bout the movie you know that late night hunger kicking in so we pull into the diner
Eat our mediocre food, scrounge up money for the check, drive home nice and slow to avoid Mr. Po-niner
Sitting in the driveway in a circle for the nightcap and the last laugh and rain falls down on my head
There are no umbrellas, bid a good night to the fellas walk inside and tiptoe all the way into my bed
Oh and I'm dreaming
Sleeping like the baby I used to be
Oh and I'm dreaming
And your words don't bother me
There's a man that I know
Who's afraid that his life won't live up to all the dreams
He's been dreaming in his mind
And there's a fella that I know
He goes by DeChirico
Bought himself a paisley shirt and wore it all the time
There's a lady that I know
Came to every single show
Call her Mom, hasn't missed an opening this season
To the girl I used to know
I don't believe in letting go
So why it happened I have got no reason
Well maybe one: you see I'm no good at playing this game
Playing this game
I'm no good at goodbye
So don't walk away
Don't walk away

Where are the facts?
Where are the rules?
Where are the limits and where are the schools
That can teach me how to fly?
Who takes the cake?
Who takes the blame?
If you think about it baby we're really the same
We live, we laugh, we love, we cry and we die
Caught in a fire
lost out at sea
Which one of these people would you rather be?
For the moment just be happy that you do not have to choose at all
Do what you like
Do it today
Don't let anybody stand in your way
Just make sure you've got someone there to catch you if you fall
And you ask me what's the point?
Well maybe we could just roll another joint
And stare up at the sky
Talk of galaxies afar
See a shooting star
Enjoy the who the what the where the when
And try to forget about the why
Where is the sunshine
where is the snow?
Where is the summer, where did the time go?
Feels like I was born just yesterday
What's the good word
And what's the bad news
Where the fuck's my receipt for paying my dues?
Stop the work for now so you can come out and play
And you ask me what's the point?
Well maybe we could just roll another joint
And stare up at the sky
Talk of galaxies afar
See a shooting star
Enjoy the who the what the where the when
And try to forget...
Jump in a puddle
Sing in the rain
The pleasure would fade if there weren't any pain
Is that a compromise or just a tragedy?
It's all what you give
All what you take
Oh the life that you live is the life that you make
Just let the things you love in this life set you free!
